Doctors of the Church, we call those men who have rendered eminent service to ecclesiastical science. These are: Sts. Athanasius, Basil, Gregory of Nazianzum, Chrysostom, Ambrose, Augustine, Jerome, Gregory the Great, Leo the Great, Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure, Bernard, Francis of Sales and Alphonse de Liguori.
